The P8P67 EVO is a good looking motherboard with a right combination of black and blue colors that ASUS always wanted to. In fact nobody wants to own an ugly looking board even though it only sits inside its case. This board comes in ATX form factor with a very neat PCB layout with all components are all well placed. The heatsinks are all having a great shape that can handle heat even at overclocked speed. This also supports a fanless board that eliminates noise. It provides three PCI-E that properly spaced to breathe some air when multi GPU was installed. All 8 SATA ports are well placed in front for easy access and neat wiring.
Specs
The ASUS P8P67 EVO supports the latest Sandy Bridge processor in socket LGA1155 for Core i7/Core i5/Core i3. It has 4 DIMM’s slot that supports dual channel DDR3 up to 32GB at 2200(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066MHz memory module. It has three PCI-E slot that runs at single 16X configuration or dual at 8X/8X, the third (black) is at 4X and 1x PCI-E 1X slot. It also provides 2x PCI and 2x PCI-E 1X slots. This board is built with the P67 chipset so that you can take the advantage of its overclocking capabilities using the unlock Sandy Bridge processor. It provides all great features with the latest state of the art technology that ASUS can offer.
Some of the best features of this motherboard are the EFI BIOS that replaces the traditional keyboard controlled to make it easier to navigate using a graphical user interface. It provides a 12+2 DIGI + VRM which is a precision digital voltage regulator that replaces the old analog version. This feature provides power efficiency to the CPU that maximized its usage with minimal power loss. The hyper Duo feature creates a hybrid storage drive by combining the HDD and SSD. The Al Suite II is a user friendly software for easy overclocking for DIGI+VRM, EPU, TurboV, BT Go, and fan speed. The ASUS DP2 is a dual intelligent processor which integrated on the motherboard that provides the EPU and TPU including the DIGI+VRM. The TPU (Turbo Processing Unit) is a precise voltage control and advanced monitoring through Auto Tuning and TurboV. The EPU (Energy Processing Unit) reduces the power drain to provide more efficiency. The MemOK function is to enable to boot the motherboard even if there is a memory compatibility issues. The BT Go is an onboard Bluetooth receiver for faster interface. The best thing about this board is the support for both SLI and CrossfireX that allow us to have freedom to choose our own multi GPU.
Testing The ASUS P8P67 EVO
The ASUS P8P67 EVO was tested using the 2600K Core i7 processor with 3.4GHz, 4GB Corsair memory, Seagate Baracuda 500 GB 7200 RPM and Nvidia GTX280. Using the TurboV, which is the overclocking features of this board instantly it can achieved the maximum clock speed of almost 4.5GHz. This means an increased of 1.1GHz or 25% on its performance with no effort.
But if you’re a computer enthusiast I’m sure you won’t be contented with these results. Setting the clock at 103MHz and the multiplier at 46 attaining a very stable clock speed of 4.738MHz, an increase of 1.38GHz in speed is noticeable in its performance. That wouldn’t be that case if you still want to pushed more speed with this board you can do manual overclocking just spend some time with it.
Conclusion
The P8P67 EVO proves to be a worthy high end motherboard from ASUS. Overclocking this board is a joy with lots of possibilities and yet very stable, just be sure to use an oversized heatsink. It packs with features that gamers and enthusiast that will make them happy for it. The support for SLI/CrossfireX, Bluetooth, firewire, eSATA and DTS sound attracts me the most. Compare with the Deluxe version, they only differ in the DIGI+VRM which is 16+2 while the EVO has only 12+2 but all other features are exactly the same. The good thing about this is that, this board is much cheaper than the Deluxe version. Performance and value wise this board will surely love by overclockers out there.
