i need help picking computer parts to build computer with?
i would like a gaming computer that could run games (exculeding crysis) on medium graphics and okay frame rates what computer parts should i get?
There are many ways that you can build your computer. You really need to ask yourself how long do you want to have the computer. Even though you can build your own computer, there’s a line where it would be cheaper to buy a pre-made computer for the quality you look for and then there is the line where it’s better to build your own computer, generally the higher you go with quality and performance, the better idea it is to build your own computer.
Personally, if your not looking for much, but a decent system, an AMD/ATI system would work for budget and it’s pretty powerful. An Intel/nVidia system will run you generally more money, but the overall system (in my own opinion) runs a lot smoother.
But parts you would consider for an AMD/ATI would:
AMD triple core black edition is a very good chip for it’s price, should be round 100USD
Some type of Gigabyte motherboard that matches the Socket type of the AMD Processor chip, a dual channel DDR2 should suffice
Corsair power supply unit, for a mid range system i would think 400watt to 650watt would be enough power, more than enough power.
Corsair DDR2 memory (RAM) 4gb dual channel is more than enough
A Seagate or Western Digital Harddrive, the size is up to you, to make your computer run faster you would get at least 2 and RAID 0 set them
LiteON CD reader only unless you want a burner, then spend 10 bucks more for that, or get a blue-ray drive for about 70-100 bucks depending where you go
Graphics card, generally if your going to build an AMD system your going to get an ATI graphics card. For that, a mid range card would be a low end 5000 series card or a high end 4000 series card. But the drivers and stuff for the 5000 series seems to be better with the directx11 i think.
For a tower, try to pic something that isn’t a load of plastic, a lot of cases look cool, but they are very cheaply made. I would recommend a CoolerMaster tower, Corsiar, or a Silverstone tower, Thermaltake isn’t that bad either.
A cheap system like that will run for about what your asking if not a little more for 600 bucks, assuming you have the FULL OS to put on the system once you got it all wired up. If you don’t have the OS, it will be quite a bit more unless you get the system builders edition, which basically means that when you put the OS on your computer it will stick with the motherboard, generally not something you need to worry about if your just going to use it anyway. You won’t need any additional cooling systems because i doubt your going to try to overclock your system, that and everything that needs a cooler comes with a stock cooler, those will do you fine unless you want to keep your system cooler, which will let it live a little bit longer, it’s up to you on that part.
But if you want a mid range system using the Intel/nVidia build…:
But since the i5-650 clarkdale is fairly cheap, for around 170 bucks, I’m going to recommend a build using that. With this, this system will probably let you run on high graphics pretty easily, but it’s going to cost a little bit more, but you can think of it as it’s going to last a little bit longer (in my opinion)
for a motherboard GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 should suffice, has everything your asking for and it should be compatible with the i5-650
Corsiar again for the power supply, again, 450w to 650w should be enough, 20 buck difference, so i would reccomend getting the 650, makes it easier on the system when you have a little more than enough power.
Corsiar again for the memory, since it’s a “i” core build they generally run with ddr3 memory only, so 4gb of ddr3 memory should be more then enough for anything middle range. the corsiar dominator series 1600 should work fine for that
same with the harddrives and the CD readers
for the graphics card this time it will be a nVidia card. Generally I choose EVGA for my provider on graphics cards, but PNY isn’t that bad either, Asus isn’t that bad. But for this one I’m going to choose an EVGA card. Anything from the 9400 to the 240 and up series should provide you with medium level graphics I would recommend “EVGA 512-P3-N977-TR GeForce 9800 GT Superclocked Edition 512MB 256-bit” for the minimum and “EVGA 01G-P3-1158-TR GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit” for the max, anything in between should be okay for THAT system.
Again, make sure you have an OS to stick on it. If you haven’t build a computer before make sure all the parts will intermingle properly. The parts that I listed should work together in harmony, but just read up on everything before you make your system to make sure it’s all compatible with one another. SATA, memory speeds with the mobo, things like that. Good luck and I hope this helps to give you an idea of what I assume a mid range computer should be.
Make sure you shop around too!!! Newegg isn’t the only place selling and they are quite expensive, try locally, if nothing then newegg isn’t THAT bad to shop.
