Is it easy to replace a dead motherboard battery on my PC?
I just wanted to know if i can replace it myself. And is it expensive? Where should I get one?
You can find the battery at Wal-Mart, Target, or Radio Shack, the first 2 will probably be cheaper, you need to go to the watch/jewelry counter at Wal-Mart or Target and ask for a CR2032 button-cell battery. They run about 2$ through 4$
To replace.
1. Unplug tower from the wall.
2. Hold power button down (after unplugged from wall) for 10 seconds to make sure all the power is out of the motherboard capacitors.
3. Locate and pop out the old battery, its likely their will be a little tab next to the plastic batter holder mounted to the motherboard, just pus the tab away from the center of the battery and it will pop out.
4. Replace battery, and put the case back together, plug in the PC.
5. Upon booting up you might notice something like ” CMOS error defaults loaded” That is fine, it just means the battery was replaced, hit whatever key it tells you to continue, most likely F1.
6. You might have to reset the clock on Windows as that battery keeps track of the BIOS setting and the Time while your PC is off.
