Do I need my CDRW after I install my DVDRW?

I bought a sony DRU840a and I have installation problems. I installed it on the secondary IDE ribbon my cdrw is on, putting the jumper pin on the slave, designating the DVD as the slave. That doesn’t work, I get an error message saying “drive not ready”. If I put the DVDRW as the master, discs play with no sound, and my computer lists C(hard drive), D(DVD). My player recognizes C(HD), D(CDRW with DVD loaded), and D(DVD player.) Seems there is a conflict?

Can’t I just remove the cdrw drive?(BTW, the DVDRW came with trial Nero and the sound problem is “DVD multi-channel plug-in missing”.)
My CDRW was set to CSEL. I set my DVDRW to CSEL on the jumper and now it works.

I have digital sound enabled, and while I get digital sound via IDE cable with my CDRW, Nero tells me I need a DVD-video multichannel plug-in to play DVD sound when I use my DVDRW? Huh? Now my DVDRW will play video but not sound. Any ideas?

if you buy sony you,ll probably need everything else sony most of the time,it seems your machine is not compartible sony normally requires other sony components to work well. try ask the sony guys they’lldirect you.
